Beijing – Day 5

The Great Wall of China

Sunday morning (like all of our mornings so far) started bright and early. We got on a bus with our driver, who then drove us for 2 hours to Mutiany, the second most popular repaired section of the Great Wall. In order to save time, we took the chair lift up the wall to avoid the 45-minnute walk. As we were on a tight schedule, we only had an hour and a half to spend walking on the wall. The group split into two and off we went.

Many Chinese tourists go to the wall in neat clothes and sometimes heels. We opted for gym clothes, which was a good choice, as it was closer to 30 degrees outside. The walk along the wall provided several great photo opportunities, as well as a good workout.

Our favorite part of the visit was taking the Toboggan down from the wall. Unfortunately for us, we had several small children sliding down in front of us, which meant that we were not able to slide down full speed. Besides that, the slide down was definitely worth the 10-minute wait.

After the Wall, we had some time to kill during our last night in Beijing, so we decided to visit the famous Lama temple in the city. The temple was beautiful, and a great way to finish our weekend tour of Beijing!

Thanks for following our adventure in Beijing! Next stop: Jinan.
